Guided By Voices' new single 'We Outlast Them All' is an irresistible appetizer
Its parent record, Crawlspace Of The Pantheon comes out in late May.
There are a lot of question-led conversations that happen in the Guided By Voices fan universe.
Among them: When did you first hear them? How many times have you seen them? What cities did you travel to do so? How much do you miss Tobin?
And asking fellow fans what their favorite record is often the carrot at the top of this rabbit hole. Because there is always a new record.
Robert Pollard and crew are known as much for their prolific nature as they are for their hooky, anthemic rock that has kept people ensnared in their net for more than 40 albums since they started dropping rockin’ bombs in the ‘80s. And of course, as much as they are for their zesty live shows, filled with fun, swagger, Bob’s high kicks — maybe not as many as 20 years ago, but, fuck, give a person a break — and camaraderie.
The new single is “We Outlast Them All,” from their upcoming 44th full-length record, Crawlspace Of The Pantheon, which is due out on May 29. I’ll go meta and quote a timeless line from one of their earlier songs to describe my first-listen thought: “Shit yeah, it’s cool.”
